Louisville Slugger honors Arnold

HUNTINGTON -- Huntington High School graduate Patrick Arnold was named as the Louisville Slugger baseball player of the year in West Virginia.

Arnold was drafted by the Washington Nationals and is pitching in their farm system. Arnold, a 6-foot-3 right-hander is 0-1 with a 7.04 earned run average in three game appearances for the GCL Nationals in the Gulf Coast League. The Nationals' rookie league team is located in Viera, Fla.

Louisville Slugger and the National High School Baseball Coaches Association in conjunction with Baseball America announced the state player of the year awards.

"These players have been selected by coaches in their jurisdictions as the best player in their respective home states," said Ron Davis, the association's executive director in a news release.

Recipients of the state awards will receive specially engraved black and silver Louisville Slugger bats noting their achievement.

Arnold was previously named as the Gatorade state player of the year. He posted a 7-0 record and 1.68 ERA as a high school senior.
